This highly specialized program is designed exclusively for REP defencemen competing at the A, AA, and AAA levels for boys, and A and AA levels for girls. Every session is built specifically around the demands of the position, with training tailored to the pace, skill, decision-making, and situational awareness required of high-level defencemen in todayβs game.
Our Defencemen Program focuses on the complete development of the modern blueliner. Players will work on key technical foundations such as skating agility, explosive quick starts, pivoting, escape turns, lateral mobility, passing, and shooting β all taught through the lens of position-specific performance.
Beyond skill development, players will be trained in critical game situations that defencemen face every shift. These include gap control, defensive-zone and neutral-zone breakouts, angling, net-front positioning, corner battles, partner awareness, and stick detail β including how to lead and direct opposing players into less dangerous areas of the ice.
Athletes will also develop the offensive tools needed to impact the game from the back end, including blue-line shot selection, walking the line, creating and recognizing shooting lanes, pinching decisions, and reading pressure effectively. Game scenarios such as 1-on-1s and 2-on-1s, both off the rush and in low-zone situations, will be emphasized to build confidence, poise, and elite-level decision-making.
This program is built to help players become complete defencemen β strong defensively, effective offensively, and confident in every area of the game. In each session, athletes will be challenged to think, move, and perform like high-level defencemen, while building the habits and details needed to succeed at the next level.
